Ball mill is the key equipment to conduct the second crushing to materials after having been crushed. It is widely used to conduct wet grinding or dry grinding to materials in production industry like cement, silicate product, new building material, refractory material, fertilizer, ferrous and non-ferrous metal ore beneficiation, glass and ceramics. Under the normal situation, the ball mill can have ten-year service life without repair, which can save a lot of maintenance cost, work and time. During the designing of ball mill, we should choose suitable and wear resistant materials, in addition, we should make sure the suitable start-up grinding ball loading and running grinding ball loading, which is very significant to reduce metal consumption and improve economic benefit. So how to determine the most suitable steel ball loading of ball mill?
As is proved by experiment, the energy consumption difference is only 5-8% between loading and no loading, which means the most power consumption is occupied by the rotating of steel ball and cylinder. For a certain ball mill, the cylinder consumption is fixed. So the reasonable steel ball loading is a key question to reduce its electricity-consumption.
The steel ball loading is reflected by its filling coefficient. With the rising of steel ball loading, the motivation of ball mill is increasing gradually. If the loading exceeds a certain degree, the motivation rising will slow down, while the electricity consumption of grinding system will have an obvious increase. On the whole, it is not cost-effective. So we should set a suitable loading. The general steel ball filling coefficient is about 0.2-0.35.
